Let Me Introduce Myself

I’m Lauren Messiah.

When I started my entrepreneurial journey, I thought I had it all figured out. I dressed up in a way that could express my personality and showcase my style without second-guessing how “appropriate” I looked now that I was the boss.  

Then one day I’m in a meeting with my (white male) business partner, and the client said to me...

Hey sweetie, are you taking notes?

Maybe it’s because I’m a woman that he thought I was the assistant. Maybe it’s because I was the only person of color. Maybe it’s because of how young I looked. It doesn’t matter - those are things I couldn’t change. 

I realized that it really is a man’s world and that I needed to play their game in order to be taken seriously, even when you’re already the boss.

So I chose to focus my energy on the things that I did have the power to change...

How people perceive me. 

If you want to get the attention and respect you require to get in the room and earn your seat at the adult table, you need to work harder than the men in the room. 

While that’s not fair, it’s the truth. 

And when I stopped trying to do it my way and started to learn how to beat them at their own game, that’s when I went from a 6-figure business to a 7-figure business in one year.

Once you have control over the room - that’s when you can start creating your own rules. But first I need to show you how to get your way into the room so you can start getting ahead in the game of life.
