Start Now, Figure It Out Later

Episode 11:

Start Now, Figure It Out Later

Fire, Aim, Ready, not the other way around!

I'm here to convince you to just go for it. If you're an entrepreneur, or anyone who has "given birth" to a business, a new identity, or a reinvention of yourself, this episode is for you. I'm tired of seeing people wait for the "perfect time" to start a business, a family, or anything that feels big and scary. That perfect time never comes! That's why I live by the motto Fire, Aim, Ready, not the other way around.

In this week's episode, we're talking about getting it done and embracing the one philosophy that has served me so well in business and, now, in my life as a mom: Start Now, Figure It Out Later. All of the most impactful moments in my career happened because I started before things were perfect. As scary as these moments were, they always worked out better than I could have imagined.

In this episode, I'm getting real about:

  • Why overthinking is just procrastination in a different outfit: I've trained over 7,000 stylists, and it's the most common thread I see holding people back.

  • How I started my YouTube channel: It started because two friends told me to just do it. So I had my assistant, who is NOT a videographer, hold my old iPhone in my kitchen, and we just started shooting. No fancy equipment, no scripts, no studio. I just committed to showing up consistently. And that little channel? That channel now has around 90,000 subscribers. It's led to TV spots, press, and over 90% of my customers found me there. All because I just started.

  • The story behind Style Boss Academy: I launched the course before I ever made the course. I was totally done teaching stylists, I was burnt out. But the idea wouldn't leave me alone, so I went to the beach with my journal and mapped it all out. I had no videos, no curriculum, just an idea and a checkout page. I set this huge, scary money goal, and the pre-launch did almost DOUBLE that.

  • The creation of this very podcast: I didn't get a fancy studio or mic. I'm literally sitting in a Zoom room on my roof talking into my phone because I just decided to get it done.

  • Motherhood, the biggest Fire, Aim, Ready moment of my life: Getting pregnant with my son, naturally, at 43. A total surprise. I didn't have a birth plan, people kept asking me, โ€œWhatโ€™s your birth plan?โ€ and Iโ€™d be like, "Uhh... give birth?". It forced me to let go of control and just go with the flow, and I'm honestly loving this new side of me.

Episode Highlights:

"Overthinking kills momentum. Getting in action is just going to snowball into more action."

"Start now, figure it out later. The finish is always freaking beautiful, even if the start is messy."

"Perfect doesnโ€™t exist. The stars are never perfectly aligned for you to make that big, scary decision."

"We gotta do it messy. We gotta do it dirty. Because overthinking is just procrastination wearing a different outfit."
